Plot

P.S. I Still Love You is the second in the series, written by Jenny Han. After their disastrous Christmas party, Lara Jean is unsure if Peter Kavinsky is in it this time. She didn’t believe she would fall in love with him, but she has. Then there is John Ambrose Mcclaren, a former friend who miraculously reappears in her life. She thinks back to the last time she saw him in the summer, back when she adored both Peter and John. Does the past repeat itself? Can she have feelings for two boys at once?

Series

P.S. I Still Love You fixes everything about book 1 that I even kind of liked. We’re welcomed back into Lara Jean’s life, love, and drama in the sequel. These books are like reading through a warm, sweet hug. My favorite. Once more, Lara Jean’s first-person point of view is used to tell the story in the novel. I was glad to finally get back into the story after “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” the abrupt conclusion, and understand why a current Young Adult romance required a follow-up. It surprised me, not to fall short.

Characters

The narrative follows Lara Jean in P.S. I Still Love You, as she wrestles with her genuine love for Peter. When John Ambrose reappears in her life, she finds herself unexpectedly thinking about him. Lara Jean is about to learn how difficult it is to understand love. As Lara Jean begins her job at a retirement home, the past—both her own and the past in general—becomes a major theme in the narrative. At one point, Lara Jean and her former middle school pals decide to play the game Assassins, which they used to play as kids. Without a doubt, this was the book’s best section. I was so thrilled about it that I was giddy. I was smitten.

Reviews

Furthermore, I enjoyed every aspect of this book a lot. The Song girls are still beautiful, and the writing was comfortable, but Lara Jean’s problems are as comically high school as they always are. But that’s to be expected—a young adult novel. Peter is once cuter but a bit of a jerk, and Lara Jean is just as immature and envious as she was in the first novel. John’s participation was enjoyable, and I unexpectedly developed feelings for him. Don’t misunderstand me; I like Peter. Sometimes. However, John felt far more like Lara Jean than Peter did. Lara Jean compares the two, even though I shouldn’t. Will she choose Peter or John? That’s sort of the storyline for “P.S. I Still Love You”. To find out, you’ll need to read.

Conclusion

Almost rare do I think a sequel is better than the original novel, but in this instance I did. The song P.S. I Still Love You made me laugh, cry, and even grin broadly. It was far more engaging than just a “hate to love” plot, and it improved in dialogue and writing style. When I say P.S. I Still Love You was the series’ biggest success so far, I believe I may be alone. Though I’ll be sad to see the story come to a close, I can’t wait to see what Lara Jean tackles next!
